I have a marbled salamander who, not surprisingly, spends a LOT of time in her burrow. I’ve never found poop on the surface of the substrate, so I’m guessing she poops underground. I don’t have a bioactive setup (although I may do that in the future), so it may be building up. Is that something I just don’t need to worry about as long as I replace the substrate periodically? I’m hesitant to destroy her burrow for cleaning purposes.

The feces easily blends in if you're using any kind of dark coloured soil as a substrate, but if you're replacing the substrate periodically than this shouldn't be a problem depending on what you mean with periodically. They will defecate in their burrow though.

If you’re changing out the substrate I wouldn’t worry.
Id definitely recommend trying to go bioactive if you’re already thinking about it! adding some worms/isopods/ or springtails will keep everything maintained!
