They weren't actually in a "cave". They were on the rocky sides of a bluff.
The only thing there that can actually be considered a cave is what you see the guy squatting down to look in w/ his light. That picture was taken from outside the cave. That cave only goes back about 2 meters past him, and there were sals throughout.
