Cat attacked my axolotl! Aaaaghhh!

tough little axie, best of luck xx

The vet was fantastic; probably the most compassionate and clever one I have ever met.
She basically said that so much had come out, and although they looked to be in tact, if there was any damage to the organs inside (which she suspects there very well could have been as his tummy had got a little bigger since yesterday) there would be nothing she could do for him. And if that wasn't the case, even just pushing them back in and stitching his skin wouldn't guarantee survival as he is so small, and despite fridging him in clean water, cats claws and mouths (and characters!) are dirty, so anything could be going on inside that could jeapordise a recovery.
She also brought to my attention that amphibians, in this sort of situation would die very slow and painful deaths without any noticeable deterioration or discomfort.

A little flutter of his gills and a stroke, then she took him off to be anaesthetised and put to sleep.
:(

Thankyou to everyone for your help and support xx

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss, Katie, I really am. I'm fighting back tears. This thread, and your terrible situation, is absolutely heartbreaking. Sebastian was a fighter, and I'm sorry he (and you) had to go through what happened. :(

He just looked so unfazed by the whole thing, and his gills were so healthy looking which made the whole thing so much harder to believe until the vet explained about the lack of visible indications of being in pain/very very ill.

Stupid stupid stupid me!
I will buy all of those Axolotl owners without lids, two each! I swear!

:(

That really sucks, Katie. I'm sorry for your loss.

oh Katie sorry to read your sad news RIP Sebastian :(

Oh Katie. I'm so, so sorry to hear that. I'm choked.

Poor little fella :(

So sorry to hear about Sebastian :( Poor little fellow, he was such a brave little trooper hanging in there, despite the odds. I've been following this thread, fingers crossing that he would make it. Again I am so sorry :(

Oh that sucks so much =[ I honestly thought there might be hope. =[ There is no point in blaming yourself, or the cat now. You did what you could for him. I'm really sorry for your loss, but thank you for the added information about what can happen to an axolotl in such a state. Hope you're okay Katie. =]

Poor thing. Sorry to read this bad news. It was a tough little guy.
