HELP HELP HELP! PLEASE! :(
My sister's cat managed to get into my room and disturb my tank, so i threw him out and just as i did i realised he had Sebastian my Axolotl in his paws!!!!
I scooped him up immediately and popped him back in the tank and left him in darkness for about ten minutes. I've just turned the lights on the see him bopping about with big pink gills and acting totally normally BUT the cat has slashed his side and there are 3 different types of things popping out. The hole is about the size of a 10p and there is a dark red bulge, a pink bulge and, the biggest bulge is lots of tiny little balls of black grey and white?
I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO? SHALL I PUSH THEM BACK IN? SHALL I PUT HIM IN THE FRIDGE? SHALL I RUN THE FILTER?
AAAAAAAAAAAGHHHH! Please help!!!
LOTS OF TEARS!

can you take pictures?

is he bleeding or something?

Pictures would be a great help, even if they're from a cellphone or something like that.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think fridging him would probably be a good idea. It'll help him recover quickly. I'll let someone who knows a little more confirm that, though.

If his internal organs are prolapsed, you need to get him to a vet as soon as humanly possible to get him sewn back up and on antibiotics.

Photo isn't great but you can kind of see the size.
I'm worried about what the bulge of little ball like things are, some of the balls are white? is this from his intestines?
There is a teeny tiny pink patch on the carpet where the cat had him, but that could be blood from biting his tail (i hate cats!!!!)
I think (and really really hope) that all the organs that are hanging out his body are still intact and nothing's been severed or spilt open (i hope i hope)

He's in the fridge and he looks ok. I'll try and find a vet asap. I had no idea you could STITCH their skin? It looks far too fragile!

Thankyou!
Anymore help would be appreciated.
And if anyone in the Manchester area knows of any clever vets, that info would be very much appreciated.

Oh my god that horrible cat! Poor little guy - I'm glad he's hanging in there!

He even has his big pink gills out and is strutting around the lunchbox in the fridge - He either doesn't care, or doesn't realise.

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE CAT!

Is the best option to head to a vet and have it stitched up?
Money's not that much of an issue. but i imagine it's going to be very expensive; having him anaesthetised and the actual op. and i still can't get my head around how you can stitch their paper like skin?

A friend suggested pushing the organs back in and keeping him in clean water until his skin starts to heal over?

Thankyou,
Kate.

It looks absolutely terrible!
I'm glad I don't have a cat.. I really hope everything is intact.
Sorry, I can't offer you any advice, I'm still really new to the whole Axie thing (fish are my forte).

Take it to the Vet like Kaysie suggested, you can't just push it back in and hope for the best.... I think it's a little more complex than that.... Cats are curious, I found my cat once in my 50G terrarium... oh yes.... it can't happen anymore but watch them... ;-)
Seriously, if you can, take it to a VET ASAP !!!

You really need to get your axolotl to a vet ASAP. A wound of that nature cannot be left without treatment.

Oh my goodness. Lucky you got in there when you did.

There used to be a guy called Aiden Raftery did an exotics clinic on Upper Chorlton Rd, try 0161 8816868.

Good luck!

Holy sh**

I'm so sorry. I really do hope you can get your axolotl to a vet soon!

good luck

I hope the little guy is ok - I've been sat refreshing this thread all day!

I nipped home for lunch and picked him up as i haven't been able to stop thinking about him all day and managed to book an appointment at a recommended Vets nearby (the Chorlton Road one, THANKYOU) (they specialise in reptiles etc) for tomorrow afternoon. His gills went a little pale due to the bumpy rides to and fro work but he perked up pronto once he settled. He's certainly being a trooper! Nothings changed with the wound, no more has come out and nothing has become unattatched (must be a good thing!) ... and i have a lovely warm feeling that he's going to be alright :)

I'm going to give his tank a bit of a make-over whilst he's in the fridge this evening :)

Fish too, are my thing. I work for a company called Tropical Marine Centre (marine fish wholesaler sort of thing) and it's the most frustrating thing knowing that in the cash-and-carry warehouse, there are thousands of water treatments, foods, chemicals and potions that can fix-up a poorly marine fish easy peasy but absolutely nothing for Sebastian! (Except for river shrump - yum!)

Thankyou for all the comments! I'll keep everyone updated!

Katie :)

Oh my, poor guy :( Definitely a vet.
I'll keep a close eye on my cat as well... (the good thing is that she doesn't have nails....She's got an accident once...)

it's not he cat's fault... they're curious by nature...
that's why the best is to have the tanks covered (and for other reasons too)

I hope he'll be fine !

I'm glad you managed to get an appointment with the recommended vet and I'm glad he's being a trooper and holding up well :)

Hopefully he'll be OK!

Please tell me you didn't take your axolotl out with you to work?
They are tough little guys, but with such an awful wound , the little guy needs to be kept stress free and clean. I have fingers and toes crossed for a good outcome.

He stayed in the fridge at work. I worked a 13 hour shift yesterday and wasn't too keen on how my housemates would react to him being in our fridge at home, and i picked him up before i had a Vets appointment, just incase they gaveme one for yesterday afternoon. Best thing in my opinion.

The cat slashed a hole in his side, not me. I think the cat's gotta take some of the blame.

Jeez!

(Seb's perky this morning, still no change) :)

Awww - go Seb! What a little legend.

Hope all goes well this afternoon, Katie.
