Question: Brownish algae in tank. I can't get rid of it!

Everyone just remember that Algae removes nitrates from tank and overall makes it a healthier environment. There are some algae control potions out there, but i would not use them. Just scrub it every few weeks or so and you should be fine. And as far as "unhealthy algae" goes, I have never heard of such a thing.

Except BGA - Blue-green algae, which isn't really an algae at all.

I have had the same problem!

I was up to date with water changes, have a fully functioning filter, live plants and two axie's.
I just used a sponge (new clean one of course) and rubbed it off...

That seems to have sorted it out at the moment... lol

Have followed this post with alot of interest as I too have just recently experienced a slight brown algae bloom in the last week in my new tank that finished cycling about a month ago. Is nice to know its normal in newish tanks and was't due anything I had/hadn't done. I too will just keep up with the cleaning when it gets too unsightly in the hope it will subside one day.

Morrison, good luck with your tank too
