in my experience java ferns are not bland... lol
that is not my axie tank but it has several large java ferns in there, they look pretty awesome
once I get some good sand substrate in my axie tank I will be moving some java ferns in there
Java fern is also awesome because you can attach it to driftwood pretty easily, if you have a bare bottom tank you wouldnt have to add any substrate as it will grow on the driftwood
