Hey all,

I have a 40 gal breeder with 3 axolotls inside (7 inch, 6 inch, 4 inch). I'm currently running a 40 gal air pump for minimal water movement but I find myself cleaning all the time. What filtration do you guys recommend??? THANK YOU!!!

In my opinion the safest and most cost effective filters for axolotls are poret filters (for 10-20H gal tanks) and mattenfilters (for 20L gal tanks and bigger). You get a huge volume for biological filtration, way more than any other filter, and you can easily customize it to adjust flow, switch the spout to a spray bar etc., and you can run a chiller behind it without having to worry about the pump being too strong.

If you really must use chemical media, you can easily upgrade the poret filter to a betterbox filter, or run a canister behind the mattenfilter without having to worry about your axolotls getting sucked against the intake.
