Barred Tiger Salamander (Ambystoma mavortium mavortium)

Haha.... Actually there is zero manipulation of these images beyond NEF conversion to TIF to JPEG, setting the levels, a teeny bit of saturation and some sharpening (only do these things because I have it all turned off in the camera to preserve image quality). I've really got my macro flash setup perfected now. I only wish I had a D300 instead of a D80...

That makes two of us.

I got my hands on a Pentax k10d the other day with a 1:1 zoom. It was a gorgeous thing... Oh how I wish I wasn't poor.

I'm still getting to grips with my panasonic dmc fz18, its good for telephoto-macro shots which I imagine will be useful in the field/out and about,,,

I had my wife's Canon S80 for a long time and I'd always take it instead of the SLR. Awesome photos, nice field capability and macro. It's just a compact digital camera yet I found it more usable than my DSLR for most purposes.

I know what you mean, even just the fact that its compact means you'll probably have it on you when a good shot appears, in your pocket or something.

John---Those are nice tigers.

John---what is the macro flash setup that you have "perfected?"

I've built a jointed bracket from the tripod socket on my camera off out to the left to hold an SB-800 combo at a 45 degree angle to about 2 feet in front of the camera.

The jointing makes it very adaptable to whatever situation I need.

John, any chance of a pic of the setup?

Now that what I call a tiger salamander. I hope I'm lucking enough to find one that nice some day.
