Moved my baby newts onto an eco earth substrate (tropical white woodlice/springtail culture, actually) and they seem to be doing fine. They're still eating 1st instar crickets, white woodlice and hatchling cockroaches. A few are getting quite big and chunky!

hi louise, they are looking great but have you tried feeding them pea aphid(acyrthosiphon pisum)?
it is easy to culture and my chinensis juv. seem to love it.

They look super! I'm quite impressed!

Thank you!

Jef, I've never heard of pea aphids over here. Is there anywhere I could get them from?

Impressive bunch! ;)

As for pea aphids: I suppose that you will find them in the wild - at least at warmer times (might be pretty cold in Scotland right now...). In Germany they are very common, even on indoor plants.

They are also called greenfly or plant louse. You can google for "acyrthosiphon pisum" and find some pics.

Is there an effective technique for harvesting them in large numbers or even culturing them?
Picking them one by one from the wild will be time consuming.
