Cats and humans can give each other colds.
It is far worse to get bit by a cat than by a dog as far as bacteria goes. Dogs and humans cannot give diseases to each other, but cats and humans can.

That's false. Dogs can transfer salmonella to humans, unfortunately. They can act as carriers.

... That's exactly the same. I'm not sure of us giving salmonella to them, but if they can give it to us, I'm sure it's possible. Also, there's many bacterial diseases that we can get from dogs. Many many many. Rabies, spotted fever, tapeworms, etc.

I haven't caught anything from my pets yet but i did give my ferrets my cold,when I had the flu I waited till it'd gone before I went near them...
There's a zoonotic list of diseases somewhere(google!)....surprising what's catching!

There's a difference between sharing disease, and just being a vector. A classic example is Typhoid Mary. She merrily (and eventually knowingly) spread typhoid all around, but never actually had typhoid herself. Had she given typhoid to the neighbor's poodle, that's one thing. But had she sneezed on the poodle, and then Mrs. NeighborLady pets the poodle while she's eating, then the dog was just a vector.

Chlamydia..? I'll research a bit more on that. That is a little bit funny. I don't think anyone has chlamydia though. :lol:

I know two people in my town who have it....and neither of them are me.

I've never heard of catching brain amoeba from cats, but people can catch a parasite called Toxoplasma gondii from simply breathing in the dust from used cat litter. That's why pregnant women aren't supposed to go near it.

There is one instance that stands out in my mind specifically: A bunch of old herpers were standing around with all the snakes of Michigan that are Massasauga rattlesnake mimics. We're chatting, snakes in one hand, eating jellybeans out of a communal jar with the other, and remarking about how it's funny none of us ever seem to get sick.

I'd say, as for those room mates, go and hide their cigarettes and booze for a while and see if that clears up the "salmonella" they got from your axie

Some wayward person on this site will use this thread to explain his/her partner the need for a trip to the clinic. Nice to see caudata.org saving relationships as well as amphibians. Just one question, can axolotls give lovebites? because if they can be blamed for them that would be really usefull, for the festive season is fast approaching lol.

My Axolotls have bitten my hand many times. It doesn't hurt or anything, it's like sandpaper. They ferociously attack the net and turkey baster though.

I am all out of "suave" so I dont plan on using that as an excuse lol, if I turned up with a love bite my wife would probably assume it was a diversionary action to disguise the addition of a new tank/amphibian, failing that I spend so much time in the doghouse my dog thinks im his roomie anyway. If anyone cares to try this excuse of an axolotl love bite please feel free to start a thread, it should be an amusing fail.
