I have been re-watching the bbc blue planet series recently, and it got me wondering if there was ever a documentary made about the axolotl?!

I know that they sometimes focus on the life of one animal, and axolotls are pretty weird, endangered and would make a good example - plus I would love to see what they are like in the wild

If anyone has seen one or can suggest where I may find a dvd or something?! I've had a look on the net and all I have found is one which is subtitled and this computer doesn't have speakers!

I second this, I would love to see a axie doco.

also, if anyone knows were I can get some free ebooks for my iPad about axies, salamanders and the like, I would be really appreciative.

@mroli123

have you tried taking a look on youtube or vevo and other video sharing websites?

I had a look on youtube but could only find peoples personal videos, I was hoping for an Attenborough esq kind of thing! That being said I haven't had a real root through any other sites

To my knowledge there is no BBC Axololtl documentary, but they appear in one of the episodes of Life on Earth.

There's a UK program called Nick Baker's weird creatures. One episode in series 3 is dedicated to axolotls. I happened to watch it about a year ago and it was the first time I ever saw one! Unfortunatley I haven't been able to find one - even torrents there's only series 1 and 2 so far...

Yeah, I've scoured the net for that programme! Watched a 2-3min clip somewhere, but not found the whole show :(

By all accounts, Nick Baker loves axolotls, so I'd love to see the programme.

I've just joined the Nick Baker forum to see if I can find out anymore!

I have never seen any of his shows, are they on animal planet or something?

I'm not 100% sure - I don't have a TV... I am pretty sure it was on here I first heard the documentary mentioned - and I think it was Animal Planet, yep - I could be wrong though!

yeah it's on animal planet- there are some of his shows scheduled in the next couple of weeks, but not the one we're after! I'm sure it'll replay somewhere some time...if I ever see it I'll give you a shout! I wish I'd paid more attention to it the first time - you get a shot of his own axies in his house - I remember the tank being huge...

Actually he should join this forum! Then we could ask him!

He is a forum member here, you never know he may pop in and advise us ;)

I went on a mad search for this and although I could find the 2:00 clip nothing else. Shame I wanted to see what happened next with the axolotl they found.

Lol Sonia! Can just imagine a leucistic swimming around with a signature on it. Designer axolotls will be next! =P

lol that's be so wrong - but kinda cool.

btw it's siona - not sonia! I couldn't let that one slide! pronounced shona though just to be awkward :p

Youtube is the only place I've ever found anything like that. In one of the planet earth episodes, I believe it was the 'Freshwater' episode on season 1, they talk about a Japanese Giant Salamamder. Anybody know what species this is?

i remember seeing that - really impressive - all I could fine was Japanese Giant salamander (Andrias japonicus). Is that the species?

Found the clip, Can i post it?

i found some videos and facts of axolotls in the wild on arkive here is a link
click here
hope it helps
sam:happy::wacko::eek:

I'm just heading out but I can't wait to go watch those clips! Thanks for posting these. Maybe we should make our own documentary. Axies around the world. I shall play the desperate Canadian chick who can't seem to be able to find one :p
