Question: Are they mating? She's laying eggs

anyone know how long she takes to lay eggs? she will be exausted by the end of it, 6.5 hours now and still going

Females can still be laying eggs 3 days after they start although I find that they seem to the lay the most in the evening/night. Your female is still very chubby so I'd say there are plenty more eggs to come. Hang on for the ride!

did not know it would take so long.
the plastic plant is getting very full of eggs now.
i have put up a sperator in the tank so the males on other side and wont bother her.
how many on average does a first birth usually do is it still in the 500+ region? given that she only 8.5 months old.

My axie's first batch was about 100 eggs. 60 of them became axies.
Congratulations with your eggs! It's a lot :D

Here is a pic 8.5 hours later and she is still laying eggs

It is now 23.5 hours since she started laying eggs. She looks like she is still laying the.
However have taken the plants out of the wank that had the eggs attached and put them into a seperate containter as shown below.
One tub has approx 270 eggs and the other approx 122 eggs.
I have put up a divider so she is seperate from the males now.

Its exactly 24 hours since she started laying eggs and she has stopped now, over 350 eggs been layed.

She must be exhausted!?

I have just fed her and she has an extreme appitite, she has gobbled down 3 full cubes of frozen bloodworms.

Its been an extremly emotional 24 hours for me, watching nature take its course in front of me.

I have noticed the following.

  • When she swins about to get air she put her foot over her slit to stop eggs coming out
  • When she gets to a plant she uses both feet to squeeze her slit area
  • The egg comes out and she uses her foot to place it on the plant leaf
  • When the eggs are ejected out they dont have the jelly bubble, they come out as dark balls then after 15 minutes the jelly sack appears and is noticible around it but is still small.
  • Some eggs come out pale in color then change to dark color after a few minutes
  • After 12 hours after eggs been layed the jelly bubble gets larger to size of a marble.

she has started laying eggs again. She has had a 3 hour rest and now more eggs

oops just noticed that.... cant edit/change it though

While cleaning the tank I took out the two plastic plants that were left, they had about 70 eggs on it, 24 of them was the final batch she layed last night. It was really hard to destroy all the eggs was not an easy thing emotionally to do.

The jelly is really sticky and thick, even the little eggs were quite solid, when picking the jelly away off the plants you could feel the small balls of eggs and they quite strong and hard.

I still have the other 350 eggs she layed in seperate containers now. If I cannot sell or get rid of them will be hard to throw them away as to raise that many will be a nightmare. 16 was bad enough pratically and financially so who know what 350 would be!!
