At 5 inches, it's probably less than 6 months old, and not able to be sexed yet. You can usually tell around 8 or 9 months, or 6-8 inches, give or take.
mine are almost 1 year and they are only about 15cms . 5.9 inches. how come they are so small. i fed them twice a day until they were about 6 months and every night now. why?! lol are they just midget axolotls?
How big is their tank? sometimes I know with fish (not so sure about axies) the tank can limit their size. I thought my oldest one was large, but after I put him in a 4ft tank on his own he became bigger. Just a thought
Oooooo thankyou eveyone ^_____^
I'll call it a she for now lol. At what age can i put a new axolotl in with her?
I've heard they can be cannibalistic with young axolotls.
I think it depends on the size of the other axie. I bought two axies about 3 inchs long from a petshop and they live happily together. I have a huge axie in another tank but i think they all need to be around the same size before I can add them in with the larger one. If you got another axie about the same size as the one you have now (and you have a big enough tank) then I couldn't see a problem with keeping more than one in a tank. Also, it helps to feed them plenty to stop them eating each other when they are hungry
I feed her ilke bits of food ^_^
As u can see from the picture she isn't fat or anything. The cubes of food i buy are too small. She can swallow them easily.
It used to be every day with one of the larger cubes. Keeps her happy ^_^ She looks at me if i dont feed her and i feel guilty

Gosh, our 6 10mth olds range from 8.5-9.5inches. We've had them since they were 2.5months. We've been feeding ours every 2nd/3rd day since they hit the 6inch mark. They have lived mostly on earthworms, occasional oxheart strips.
What kind of 'parasites' do you have in your tank? Usually, people think their axolotl has parasites when there are no parasites, but harmless free-living organisms that are normal in a healthy tank.
Just because it's twitching and swimming doesn't mean it has parasites. And just because you have microorganisms in your tank doesn't mean they ARE parasites. If you see them swimming in the tank, they're probably NOT parasites, or they'd be attached to your axolotl.
