Heya. havent been on for so long, it takes so much to look after these little guys. ive now got 70/110, which i think is pretty good. i lost about 5 a day for a while but i havent lost any for about a week. they havent grown leegs yet though, so they arent big enough to eat each other. the average length is about 2.8cms, when do they start growing arms/legs!? and does anyone in australia have and grindal worms or micro worms?!!! im running out of brine shrimp but i think they are growing out of it. they are starting to ignore alot of it which im worried about. i heard grindal worms are easy to start take care of and will be small enough to feed them now. so if anyone has any can you help me! im not sure the quarantine/custom laws are for worms. im guessing they wouldnt let them into australia from overseas.

they are looking a bit thin now though. they were really fat at one stage when my brine shrimp was hatching properly, the worms would make everything so much easier. no one around here has even heard of them! lol.

try frozen bloodworm that did the trick with my larvae they suck it down like spagetti it cute but funny

hey! ur baby axies are bigger than mine but mine are older.lol. unfair! but on the other hand mine already have their front arms. my biggest ones are around 2cm. i have noticed that mine too are stating to ignore the brineshrimp but not to the extent that they are ignoring it completely. i have no idea where to get worms from as i live in WA.

I have read a few posts where black worms work if you cut them up really good. When I start to breed mine, I might try this if I can stomach looking at those black worms all squirming together. yuck. They just really creep me out. Also, have you tried Daphnia? Not sure if this will work, still learning the art of axolotl rearing lol.

they are still only at the stage of eating live food. once they have back leg buds (i think) then they can eat frozen bloodworm or pellets etc.
well done with the babies by the way

Hi,
My guys are around 3cm with front arms and hands and they have been eating cut up black worms, they love them :)

I'll try & get the contact details of the supplier to our local aquarium store for you Shane. The supplies come from QLD apparently.

ive tried so many places on the internet with no luck, and the aquariums and petshops around here, but no one has even heard of grindal/micro worms! is there any specific time that they start to grow legs? or does it just happen at their own pace. i can only see a tiny bud under their gils but they have been there for a while, im thinking its just because of lack of food. what are black worms by the way. ive heard them being mentioned a couple of times. thanks everyone.

they grow at their own pace really. if they are in a higher temp water they will grow more quickly.and also the more food they are given, the quicker they will gorw. its great watching them grow. once mine hit the juvenile stage and had been juveniles for a couple of weeks, they started to come to the surface of the water when they saw me. so cute.

what colours are your babies shane?

Vanessa - Vebas have microworms. They have their own culture apparently - it's $4 per container.

i use black worms, mine are about 4cm long now and i dont have to cut up the worms anymore, i just noticed this afternoon that they have little stumpy back legs! so exciting watching them grow, mine eat heaps now, its hard to keep up with the feeding!!

but i also have some that ar only about 1.5cm...so yeah, not sure wats happened there, just growing different i guess!

hey, i just noticed arms! they are tiny tiny little arms and you can see the fingers too, its so amazing to see. the colours are the majority are wild type, there are a few grey-ish ones, it will be interesting to see if they keep it or just turn wild, there are alot of golden albino which is really good when they first hatched they all looked as if there were going to be wild types so im happy that there are a few different types, and about 8/68 are white albino you cant see their eyes, but there are two with red eyes.. :S no sure why they are the only ones different. but its kool ^_^ .

yeah mine all looked as if they were going to be wildtypes but after a few weeks i could just about tell the colours they were going to be. mine turned out to be just wildtype and leucistic. they grey coloured ones might turn out to be leucistic because i think my leucistics were greyish in colour until they got older.

Shane - cool deal on the different colors. I only had golden albino and white albino when I had larvae. I loved their little thread legs when they started to grow, amazing to watch.

I think it would be so amazing and cute if someone could actually record the growth, eating and development of baby Axolotls on video. I would like to see something like that for children to watch, it would be educational and for the science departments at schools.

i have 2 melanoids, 2 leucistics, 5 wildtypes, 1 albino and 1 golden albino.lol

i was just wondering, i didnt know where to put it. is it safe to use normal silicone with axoltols? i just wantto join my rocks. lol.

Aquarium silicone is safe to use and you can pick it up from most LFSs.

Shane, I used black aquarium Silicone to glue the rocks to my rock cave pictured here. I stuck the rocks each on individually, took me hours!
