Hello,
I have had my axolotl for about 6 years and I notice today that his gills were not looking great. He had a female in the tank a while ago. I remember that his gills were always not the biggests. He was in a tank that was not great and now he is in a really nice tank. Could the first tank have hurt his gills? Will the gills grow back?
Thank you

Other axolotls can bite the gills of their tank mates & rogue feeder fish can nibble at them too, they should grow back.

That one stalk on his left doesn't look good. Get a closer look at it to make sure it doesn't have fungus eating away at it.
Gills usually grow back, but they don't always grow back perfect. Does the water test ok?

Thank you for the help
The water is perfect I test it every day. There is no fungus on him at all. He does not act any different. Is there anything else to look for?

You're welcome. I'm happy to help.
Just keep doing what you are doing. Make sure he has a nutritious, varied diet. What are you feeding?

I mostly give him live red worms and pellets I some times give him frozen blood worms or frozen brine shrimp. I do not give him the frozen food often though.
