I am hoping for help here. We recently purchased a Fluffy Gill Leucistic (Lucy) Axolotl, 3" baby from fantasies. We received the little guy about 3 weeks ago. We set up his tank in a 20-gallon tank (filled with 15 gallons of water) and set up the bottom of the tank with Carib Sea Super Naturals Aquarium Sand. We purchased a Fluval U3 Underwater Filter and have an Aquarium Bio Sponge Filter 2 PCS up to 55-gallon tank with Double Sponges I am using a Uniclife Aquarium Air Pump Dual Outlet Fish Tank Aerator with Accessories for Up to 100 Gallon Tank.
He was doing just fine, until a few days last week, we noticed that he got stuck behind the double spong filter! Twice in two days (last Wednesday and Thursday). When we went in to feed him on Friday, was hiding in his log and din't come out to greet us as normal. When he finally came out, his back right leg seemed twisted, and he is having a hard time walking and stabalizing himself. He has been lathargic and isn't eating that great. He seems to be sad and is hiding more. I'm not sure what do do. My husband things that the filter we have is too strong for the tank. We are looking to replace that today.
What other suggestions do you have to help get this poor little guy back to feeling like himself? We are getting ready to leave for vacation and have someone takign care of our animals on Sunday. My son is heartbroken and doesn't want his axolotol to die. Please help! I'm happy to send pictures or videos. Thank you!
