Hey all-

We have two Lake Urmia Newts who are probably around a year old and finally seem fully grown. In the past month (October), they’ve started eating significantly less and being lower energy. They maybe eat 2-3 times per week but still have some food left over that we clean out after each meal.

Additionally, a few weeks ago we found one of them fully out of the water on the side of the glass. When we turned the light off they scampered back into the water but they seem to be wanting to be out of the water more often.

All of the water monitors look good and we do our weekly partial water changes. Water temps range between 58-63F. We’ve only had them since last February when they were still younger and growing, so we’re wondering if this is just them being older and needing less food or if they’re brumating? We don’t know if newts do that like geckos. Should we be concerned? Thank you!
