I'm curious what people do during their water changes, what they use to make it easier, how religious they are with it, etc. I figured if someone was struggling and another person had an innovative idea it could help those for whom the water change is a massive chore :D

I currently have about 5 or 6 5 litre water bottles I use. I've figured out what 20% of each tank is and find it nice and easy to siphon off x litres of each tank into the 5 litre bottles, rounding up since a little more is better than a little less in my opinion :) For 4ft tank 20% is 2 bottles out and I have 2-3 bottles of already dechlorinated water sat there so it is a case of straight out, straight in  I do my water changes of separate days but have no set day, generally every 1-2 weeks, regardless of the water readings as my nitrate is still hovering between 40 and 80 ppm but the parameters are checked weekly to be on the safe side.

The babies I do a partial every 1 to 2 days.

I have a 5 gallon bucket, and I change 10 gallons once a week on sunday

Currently I siphon out leftovers almost every day. About 5 liters of 120 liter tank.
I also use Biotopol and Ph-Minus when I do complete changes and when needed.

Anyone else use anything for water treatment?

I'm still cylcing my tank so the babies are in a holding tank which i clean out daily, but i have preperations for the water change procedure once they are in the big tank. I cut a 5 meter long piece of garden hose to siphon out the water directly into a drain in my garden, i used Tetra Aquasafe Dechlorinator to pre-treat a bucket of water the day before ;)

I can't tell how many ltrs or gallons I change at the time, but I stopped using aquarium aquasafe products, and instead I have a deposit of many liters of water in which I inserted aquarium aeration devices, to speed up the release of chlorine, avoid it from geting stagnant or infested with alage, bugs or whatever. So far so good. :-D

My Husband takes care of the tanks. He siphons anywhere from 20-50% depending on how dirty they are. On the 'big' axie tank (55 gal) he just 'vacuums' out the poop, and stirs up the sand to make sure they are clean and replaces what he took out, we also rinse off the filter cartridges when we change the water.

As for the babies that I have in the plastic containers (about 60) they get cleaned everyday with fresh cool water declorinated with 'Fresh Start' chlorine remover. I get to take care of the babies. 100% water change every day, bloodworms are soo messy. I use two 5gal buckets (refilling each a couple of times) and it takes me about an hour and a half to clean and feed everyone, but they are all fat and happy:D. so it's worth it. I have a fairly good routine as they are now about 3 months old (and I still have 96 of them)
