My axolotls won't breed. You might already know that.
My tank is a bit on the small side (I'm waiting for my new room. New room = more space = more awesome stuff = bigger tanks for my axolotls = happy axolotls).

Is it possible that they don't WANT to breed because it's a bit cramped inside that tank?

Xotl won't chase the ladies. I added another male a while ago (placed one female in another tank so that it's not too much of the good stuff) and still nothing. Guess the tank is the problem. Or do I just have lesbian-lotls?

Not sure if this is much help, but the two times my axies have laid eggs was when there was a massive water change.

Axolotls cant help but breed...... you just need the right temp. What is the tank temp ?

Mine started doing dances when our heater got put on a timer this winter. It'd get pretty cold at night (16 degrees in the house) then the heater would come on in the morning as we got up for work. This made the tank gain a degree or two so every morning the two boys would dance for my female.

Not that that actually helped, Miss Thor was having none of that lol. Boys never left any spermaphores anyway...

The temp is 19C.

Axolotls are triggered to breed by temp changes, generally a slight drop, though if they are kept at 10c for a while they can be trigered by a temp rise. At 19 c and if the female is gravid she should lay at some point, try some cool water changes, it will generally stimulate the males but if the female is not ready or she doesnt fancy him she will not lay. I have two 10" females who will only breed with my 12" male, I have tried them with three smaller males but wont pick up the spermataphores they drop, as soon as the females go in with the big fella they fill the tank with eggs lol.

Agree with xxianxx, both times mine laid eggs this year, there was a temperature drop.

My tank is usually 18c in summer with a chiller to maintain, in autumn, disconnected the chiller and let the tank do it's own thing - temps have been as low as 12.5c but usually more around 14 - 15c and mine have bred twice in that time.

Only problem, hand feeding is not much fun at those lower temps :D

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail.
