Interesting observation, Ralf. Do C.p morphs retain such tail coloration even after say 9 months?

They do, Tim. Took a pic of two of my smaller Cynops pyrrhogaster sasayamae juveniles from April last year. Sorry for the quality, it was taken in a hurry.

I convinced, Ralf. Nice to know I have a C.p juvie but a slight disappointment that I don't have an odd-colored C.ensicauda. So about how long does the yellow last? A year or so?

. The yellow markings usually vanish after one to two years. I've actually never seen a "yellow-tail" enter the water again. I was also told, that some of the markings on the sides and especially the "cheekspots" may even stay up to adulthood in some individuals and turn orange to red later on.
