Hi all, we have had Xena for 2 years now and she was going strong and happy until just over a week ago she looked terribly sick. Nothing changed in her lifestyle and same process has been used the whole time we’ve had her. Now all of a sudden she has lost her gills and is a terrible colour. She also has a flaky substance coming off her. I’ve given her repeated salt baths but it’s not working. Checked the water and all seems fine. Here are some pictures before and now. Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

Can you tell us what the water parameters are?
What kind of salt baths are you using?
Is she currently being tubbed? What temp is she being kept at?

To me it looks like sepsis, which is typically bacterial.
If you can see an exotic vet for injections of antibiotics that would probably be your best bet.
You may also have more luck with responses if you post this to the Axolotl forum instead of the newt/ salamander help forum

Thank you for your help. I have been looking into it and think you’re right as we checked the water again and it’s fine so we are now preparing the tank for Xena’s new life. Thank you again 🙌🏼
