The water in my axolotl tank suddenly got cloudy and yellowish today. I decided to do an 80% water change. I changed the water, and it was still yellow. I took a guess and decided to take out all the sand in the tank and rinse it. Yup. That was it. Well, I did all that, and changed the water again. The filter broke. Meanwhile, the axies are feasting on worms in their little tubs.
So, after spending an hour on the floor of my dorm room trying to fix the filter (which I got working by prying the propeller out and cleaning it. The perpetrator was a small piece of algae stopping it.) I got up from my completely wet dorm floor (yes, everything is wet! I', on my own aquarium!) and moved to put the filter in my tank. I tripped on my old filter and the towels on the floor, and dropped the filter right into the 6liter tub holding Enrique Anthony.
I was so scared. But, turns out, the little bugger got out of the way just in time. I just barely missed him. Whew.
Now my tank is filtering and my axies are hanging out in their tubs. Doing huge water changes in a dorm sucks! Especially since my room is so small. All of their things take up most of my floor space.
Anyway, it turns out filters are pretty easily fixed. If yours ever goes out, just take everything apart and pry out the propeller and little dipstick thing. Putting some vaseline on the dipstick helps it run nicely, too.
Poor Enrique gets some extra bloodworms tonight.
