Just a question. I have two axies that I have had for about 3 years. They are so cute and I love them to bits, but just recently I have noticed that they both appear to be female. I am unsure, but I was reading some books on axies and one mentioned something called a prolapse caused by eggs. I am a little worried now. Do axies HAVE to produced and for want of a better word, expel them? What happens if they don't? Should mine have done so by now? Also, how do I make them if they haven't. I don't want babies, just want to make sure Albie and Coco (my babies) are healthy.

Thanks,
Amira

Axolotls are unlikely to prolapse from eggs. They're much more likely to prolapse from gravel impaction. If you have two females, it's unlikely that they'll lay eggs at all, although it's happened where females have laid (infertile) eggs without a male present.

Eggs are always produced in females (not only in Axolotls...) although they unsually will not be laid if no male is present (there are some special cases where unfertilized eggs are deposited as Kaysie mentioned).

For a healthy female there is no problem when no male is present - they just resorb unlaid eggs. If you have had no problems for the last 3 years they should be fine. For instance laboratory animals are almost always kept seperate.
