Worms

I can purchase 2 types of worms in my area (MD). The first are the big Night Crawlers that come in 12 to a styofoam box. The second, are called Red Wigglers and are small and thin and appear to have ridges or bands. They come in a plastic cup. Are these good for small newts as you don't have to cut them up some much?

sounds like petsmart.
night crawlers are very good for them, but it is kind of a pain to cut them up into small enough pieces. i buy the red wigglers, and although my fire sal. rejects them, all of my newts and tiger sals love them. From my experience, a newt will very gladly accept any kind of worm.

These kind are easy to cut into small portions. Make sure they are small enough for your newts to eat.

I assume the red wigglers are healthy for them like other worms, but i would definitely offer other food options from time to time too.

A lot of salamanders reject red wigglers. They emit a yellow liquid when you cut them up. You can try washing this off (Tarichas are known to eat them, but mine won't)....

Every salamander I've met has eaten chopped nightcrawlers. Including all those sierrae that Paris bought to IAD.

Worms good: buy both! Just experiment and see who eats what. They keep for a long time in the fridge, so they won't go bad on you.

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail.
