hi .. i know it's possible to dig up your own worms from your yard, but i think that will take up to much of my time. does anyone have any idea where i can buy safe worm's so i can start my own indoor coloney. i've sean a few places on the web, but they also sell items as bait for fishing. i really don't want to take a chance of getting contaminated worm's. any and all supplier's names will be appreciated.
thanks jody

big apple herps has sent me pretty decent canadian night crawlers. I was very surprised by the quality of their wares.

I get mine from my back yard or from the bait shop and I have done so for years and never had aney problems

I get all my worms from Walmart (or occasionally TopHat crickets).

From what I've read on forums, bait shop worms are OK to use. I just wash them off under the tap and do a final rinse with dechlorinated water. If you plan on culturing worms, keep in mind that different types of worms have different requirements. Redworms and red wrigglers (compost worms) can live at room temperature I believe. However, Canadian nightcrawlers have to be refrigerated or kept in a really cool place.

I got two dozen Canadian nightcrawlers from a bait shop a while back for $4. They are going to last me a while because my little Cynops orientalis can only eat small cut-up chunks at a time. My pacman frog won't eat them anymore because I think I touched my newt's water and then touched the worm I fed him. Grrrr. I was hoping he'd take care of most of the worms, but he only eats crickets now.

I get my worms from bait shops. You could always ask were they get their worms, mine are caught local so I have a good idea. They won't always know though. I've had no problems with them so far.
