Does anyone know where I can buy some good wood for my Axie tank? I bought some at the pet store soaked it for 14 days and it stopped turning the water in my tub brown, I put it into the tank and after a few days it turned the water brown and it started to create a clear slime all over the tank. Just wanna get a really natural look going in my tank with live plants but I feel wood is going to be the challenge?

you know i was wondering the same thing! Now i know you have to sterilize rocks and stuff like, maybe if you boil the wood for a while (a few hrs) then maybe it wouldnt turn your water brown???

sorry that im not of any major use!

Most driftwood you would want to boil it to get rid of any parasites are slime stuff then soak it for around a month so it doesn't turn your water brown, although it turning the water brown isn't making your water conditions worse it's just releasing tannins some people prefer brown water.

Does the brown water harm the axolotls? I would love to boil some sweet wood..

I have driftwood in my planted tank that turns the water brown. Five or six years after being added to the tank. I've removed pieces that have worn away to nothing.

One thing to consider, is that axies do not come from a perfectly clear environment. They wouldn't be so blind and instinctive if they did. I'd love driftwood that didn't dissolve, but real wood does.
