I’m thinking of getting my axolotls some wood for their tanks to give it a more enriching feel and more hides. I was wondering if anyone had suggestion of what wood to get because I know they’re sensitive and I don’t want to harm my little ones.

Thanks!

most drift wood / bog wood and other types that are sold for the aquarium are fine for axolotls, the issue people have with most wood is the tannins produced, the tannins give the water a more natural yellow/brown tint but also lowers the ph/kh which can be a problem, repeated boiling of the wood reduces the tanins produced and activated carbon can remove discolouration from the water, bicarbonate of soda can be used to increase/correct ph/kh.
