why wont my axies have babies? please give me explanations.

i have had babies from them before so why not now?

They don't want to. You can't force them to have babies. They'll lay eggs when they're good and ready.

I wrote it wrong up the top is just one female and one male not two females (silly me

) also I know the male is ready he is leaving a few spermatophores around. It’s the time of year that they have babies too and I didn’t get any last year either

What's the water temperature Nathan? Seems to me the sudden drop in temp for winter over here has induced spawning. Have you checked your water quality? Your female is around 8 years old from memory - maybe she's too old for laying eggs? How round is she - my female was really round before she laid her eggs.

How big is the tank - do you have plants?

Ok, water temp is sitting on 17 sometimes it drops to 16.

With water quality do you mean ph or ammonia nitrite nitrate.

That is a possibility

She is still very round and fat as she has always been

Tank is 2.5 foot (is that to small for two)

I do have a couple but not to many (they always eat the ones I put in)
I hope that helps thanks for your help.

By water quality I mean all of it - pH, ammo and the whole nit- thing.

Ph is 7.4 should I try and neutralize it?
I can’t test for ammo etc because I don’t have a test kit. it has been set up for ages now though.

Hey Nathan, can you take your water to test it at a pet store? They usually test for free

I always take my water in and test it there, they are always so pleasant and helpful

Well, it's probably something to do with the water quality then. You probably already know this, but water chemistry is so important. If you're really short of cash and can only buy one kit at a time, I would start with the ammonia one because that's the really damaging one. Then get the nitrite one. Do you have a City Farmers store near you because they tend to be cheaper than pet stores.

If you're doing regular partial water changes, there may not be anything wrong with the water at all, but it's better to be sure.

How much would one kit cost? Hey I got an idea you could get it for me and get your special discount or not, I don’t think they would like the drag style.

nathan in my ahhhhlol thread we were talking about school, what school do you go to? i know of a few schools in bunbury and i thought maybe you might go to school at ocean forest which is a new school. if you do then yours and my school are like sister schools because i go to living waters lutheran college Warnbro and sometimes the people from ocean forest come and visit our school at sports carnivals and things like that, my old teacher also works there now. if you dont go there you will probably have no idea what i am talking about and i have just rambled on for nothing.lol. about the breeding thing maybe you just have bad luck.lol.

Maybe they don't get along. My female can't stand my males. She's always trying to get away from them. Can't say that I blame her though. The melanoid wants anyone to pick up his spermatophores, including the other male. lol.

No but they might give you a discount if you go in drag, Nathan.
As to price, I think it's around $10-$15 from memory.

Vanessa, I don’t know what you are talking about

Joan it is possible but they seem to like being together and my female is often annoying him and vice versa

Anne Marie I may be able to buy one today since we are going up to Perth

Well I got an ammonia test kit it was $22.28 with discount of course, at the city farmers in Mandurah.

Which brand do you used Anne-Marie? I bought the brand aquarium pharmaceuticals is this brand ok? Also there is no ammonia in the water.

Yes, thats the brand I use - in a yellow box. And it's good to know there's no ammonia.
