Great looking houdinni! M.alpestris right???they look great.
My marbleds climb like professionals, even my adult cynops do..so you´re right...lids are definitely a must.
 
My Northern Slimy Salamanders, Southern Two-Lined Salamanders, and Southern Redbacks are literally profesionals at climbing almost any surface.
 
Wow. Jen should add those to the "preventing escape" article on CC. That little guy is way up there.
 
Good idea, Jim. We have a photo of this type in the FAQ, but it wouldn't hurt to have one in that article too.

I like how the other newts down in the water are looking up as if they're watching.
 
They're probably all shouting words of encouragement ("You can do it, Spot!" "Just a little more and you're home free!" "GO, Spot!")

Those are some awesome looking newts! Great pics!

And of course this makes me go and re examine my lid for the upcoming inhabitants
