I had 14 axie eggs, 13 hatched, 1 didn't develop, so I have let them feed of their hatching yolk for the first 48 hours, the next day I had fed them boiled egg yolk as I have heard people raising there axies on this for a long time, yesterday I had fed them brine shrimp and today egg yolk, I have separated them into plastic drawers with prepared water and also I complete daily water changes. So after today's feeding all were looking well and jumping about, so I have come back around 9 hours later to find that one has died? I am worried if this is going to happen to all the axies as I do not want them all dieing , what could this be,

Could it be because I often move them to a different tank for a new water change

Is it the egg yolk, maybe they aren't eating it

Just anything please would help for a reason to why it has died?...maybe just nature-survival of the fittest

Sometimes deaths are simply natural. Make sure not to leave brine shrimp in too long, they can increase the salinity of the water. Make sure to strain your brine shrimp through a coffee filter and then squirt water over the shrimp to remove the salt before feeding. This will help keep their water salt-free.

As for whether or not they are eating... hatchlings need the food to be moving in front of their face, then they will snap at it. You can see if they're eating this way, and it's really fun to watch! Egg yolk is a temporary food until brine shrimp is available, don't continue with it.

Are the baby brine shrimp you got them live? You have to set up hatcheries, hatchlings and young axolotls are very finicky about already dead food.

I'll check back with this thread, let me know the answers and we can try to work out a solution. Also, the best suggestion for new axolotl owners is to start with juvenile axolotls. Hatchlings require proper quite a bit of research and time.

Yes I had filtered the brine shrimp and rinsed them many times, the egg yolk is all I have as because if the jubilee week it was impossible to get food online so I had to wait until the next day and I ordered a bunch of live shrimp, which was a take on as there were barely any live shrimp in it so I had tried to order more and nobody will post on Thursdays so I have to feed egg yolk to a maximum day of Tuesday coming? No shops sell brine shrimp and I have ordered all the equipment to set up my own hatchery

The brine shrimp may have been too big for your babies. They really need freshly hatched ones. I had trouble with my brine shrimp hatchery and one of my batches of eggs failed. It can be a real case of trial and error trying hatch brine shrimp. Is there any way you can get hold of any live daphnia? I managed to get hold of 2 bags, some of which I put in with the larvae (they daphnia have live babies every day so there is always something small enough for them to eat) and the rest I put in a tub outside where they bred for a few weeks until the axolotls had scoffed the lot.
I really recommend you try to get hold of some if you can as back up in case your brine shrimp hatchery takes a few goes to get right. There may be someone on here who can send you some daphnia :)
I have a bag of brine shrimp eggs which always hatched successfully which you are welcome to, but the eggs are a few months old now so not sure if the hatching rate would be as good.

Some deaths are inevitable no matter what you do, if you were doing something wrong you would probably have more dead. Just keep on top of the water quality, temp and provide a decent food source and you will be ok.

Yes I have daphnia culture but they are adults and my axies are only like 5 days old View attachment 23319 showing in this picture and also here my daphnia cultureView attachment 23320, the brine shrimp I had fed them were newly hatched baby ones which I had filtered, maybe it just a natural case

Also I have a brine shrimp kit with the eggs, but no air stone to grow these , so food it limited and I have to wait until Monday to order

I would have to agree, try to get more baby brine shrimp asap and keep up the good work.

How are you getting on? I was in a panic when my hatcheries were being slow but somebody on here told me to put adult daphnia in with the axolotl larvae as they are having live young all the time so within a few hours there could be newly hatched daphnia in with them. I left daphnia in with mine at all times, until they had eaten them all and then moved on to brine shrimp :)

Thanks or the reply , I also had done what you done, I filled it up with the adult daphnia and ordered a lot of brine shrimp first class and they are all full up now with oranage bellies :) ImageUploadedByTapatalk1339626500.802723.jpg as u can see the belly illuminating in the badly took picture lol, so I also have brine shrimp hatchery on the go so I hope my food source stays permanent :) as I have little albino eggs developing :), do you know when legs begin to develope thank

Nice. Orange bellies are happy bellies :)

Make sure you stay on top of your daily (or more) water changes, the dead shrimp funk it up rather quickly.

I've only raised 3 larvae so far, but they took about 15-20 days to get legs I'd say. Once the come they come in quickly. First a little nub, next day a stump, complete (but sooo tiny!) little arm the next day.

Have fun watching your babies grow, it's awesome! Wee if you;re a nerd like me it is anyway. Hope you enjoy!

Lol thanks I change the water everyday anyway :) and now have their food all prepared :)

I have 8 left from 13 ( I don't count the mouldy egg) they are getting bigger and bigger each day,

Lol thanks I will be sure to separate them into individual containers when the limbs grow, have fun with your axies and thanks for the help :D
