Hi,

Have been trying to raise some golden axolotls from spawn and I'm not having much luck. A number of them seem to develop little white spots on their tail that seems to impede their ability to swim about. A day or so later they die. Any ideas on what this is and more importantly how to stop it?

Thanks

Hi,

I´m sorry to hear about that.
I´m not sure, but maybe it yould be a fungus or an infection.
What is your water temperature and do you use dechlorinated tap water for breeding?
What are you feeding them and do you always take off the waste by doing water changes?

There are so many questions/reasons for a young larvae dying, so plaes take a look at this site. http://www.caudata.org/cc/articles/why_larvae_die.shtml

The absolute best conditions would be to use an old well-established tank with live plants - a tank that has been in use for at least a couple of months. If this isn't possible, then you have to experiment with other conditions until you find a setup/routine that works. I would suggest trying to raise them in a number of separate containers, trying various things.
