So suddenly my poor little Maxalotl has grown a white fluff looking substance behind his gills!
The tank temp hasn’t changed at all, and our testing kits say that everything is where it should be so I’m not sure what’s happened or what to do to help!

His appetite hasn’t changed and he’s still very very active, just now with added fluff.

Photo provided to help diagnosis, and any help in treating Max is highly appreciated!

It really has come up out of nowhere!
He used to have a bit of skin peel too but after I got the tank levels sorted out that stopped and now this white fluff has come up!

Thank you for your help, I’ll definitely try a salt bath!

If you have further issues with the slime coat I'd recommend either tea baths or putting indian almond leaves in the tank. They help heal the skin! You should be able to find heaps of info on here about both :)

What are the exact water parameters? His skin looks a bit irritated too.
I wouldn't say illness just appears out of the blue. Fungus usually arises with a water quality issue, needing no treatment except fixing of the water. They heal well on their own after the water issue is addressed.
I had a fungus/skin issue once and it turned out my very cycled tank (years of running) had a little crash somehow.
