Hi guys

1) may i know which newts and salamanders are suitable for keeping at a constant of 23 degrees?
2) is a tank size of 18inchx12inchx12inch good enough for 1 or a pair of newts?

thanks

An air temp or a water temp of 23? Water temp would be cooler than the air temperature so

Tylototriton verrucosus would do well around those temps. Other species like P.waltl, C.pyrrhogaster or H.cyanurus, while they can tolerate higher temps than that would benefit from some variation, particularly colder periods at some point in the year. Constant temps is not something that is suitable for most species .

hi folks,

i mean water temp at constant 23degrees because i will be using a chiller to cool down and i will set the chiller temp at 22-23degrees.

Hi Azhael,

Thanks! ok got it
1) T.verrucosus
2) H.cyanurus same as C.cyanurus?
3) P.waltl

how about Axolotls, Paramesotriton\Laotriton, Neurergus kaiseri?
can these survive at 23 degrees?

how about the tank size? is it too small? i aim to keep it small so i can cool them down effectivity.

thanks

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that the Chinese species that were included in Cynops got the new name of Hyposeltriton while the Japanese species kept Cynops

Yes, Cynops cyanurus is the same as Hypselotriton cyanurus.

I would not recommend any Paramesotriton/Laotriton or Neurergus.
Tylototriton verrucosus is the only species that could do well with a constant 23ºC. All the others would be in suboptimal conditions without year-round variation.

The tank you describe is roughly 40 l or 10 gallons which would be too small for T.verrucosus.

hi Azhael,

ok roger that! only T.verrucosus for me.

1) is the 10gallon tank too small even for 1 T.verrucosus? i only want to keep 1 newt. because i don't think they will breed in 22-23 degrees. correct me if i am wrong? so no point keeping more because they might fight and injured.

2) the reason i choose a small tank because it is easier to insulate and keep cool. and the reason i choose 22-23 degrees is because any lower temp in my area results in water condensation outside the tank. this cause water dripping everywhere to the floor.... technically i can go as low as 18 degrees with a chiller. but the water condensation is a big problem to me....

3) i will add a small 3watt 200L/hr internal filter with Bio-sponge and some Ceramic rings media to filter the water and pump water to the chiller to keep the tank water cool.

4) there will be no sand or substrate.i hate sand because they damage pumps.
but i will add 1 big driftwood as hiding cave and as dry land area. i will also add 1-2 plastic/silk plants.
.
do you think this setup can work well for 1 T.verrucosus?

also do you think Cynops ensicauda can fit 23degrees temp?
i read these came from fairly hot tropical regions in japan southern islands Okinawa.

thanks

Hi folks and azhael
can you advice if a 18"x12"x12" too small for 1 newt?

also if c.ensicauda is suitable for 22-23 degrees?

i just want to make sure they are kept in
right conditions before i get them.

thanks

hi rodrigo

can P.waltl survive in a temp range of 22-25 degrees?
i read they can survive drought and they come from arid areas... but the caresheet here says 21degrees???
