You should probably use sand because all the junk gets accumulated between the nooks and crannies of the marbles. Im deffinetly thinking of using sand for my aquarium.

Also, anything up to 2.5cm can be swallowed (maybe not when they are small but as they grow larger), so unless you use something larger than 3+cm. Probably not a good idea. I use sand. Easy to clean and maintain.

Yeh all the bits of food and poo would be hard to get out of the cracks.

Kapo, I had large river rocks (3cm or so), and these were occasionally sucked in and spit out.

I remember reading a thread where somebodys axie had actually managed to eat a marble ball. And teh axie was white, so they could see the blue marble through his sides!! I do not remember what happened then, but I think this sorta thing happening means marbles are not safe.

Joan, I can believe that, I was trying to gauge the size that would be safe of the top of my head. I suppose best bet would be size of an adult axies head! (ie: the riverstones size then). Our 3yr olds, that hubby rescued, as he calls it, had been on those round glass pebbles (2cm) mixed with smaller blue gravel, prior to us gettibg them. They still poo out blue gravel and the odd glass pebble even now, which looks incredibly painful!

good points lol i'll try to find some sand i have no idea where i'll find it here in canada lol or by where i lie for that matter but i'll try. Thank you!
