Which color type is most common?

I've been wondering this a lot lately, which axolotl color type is most common? It seems to me that wild type might be on the top of that list, followed by gold, then Leucistic, then regular white albino. White albino seems pretty uncommon, am I getting that right?

Anyone got any good guesses?

Here in Sacramento, the most I've ever seen at pet shops are mostly gold. There has only been one time since a good store I trust here had wild type, and they were gray wild types which I ended up getting one, she was my first Axie.

But it would seem that most people here on the forum either have gold or wild type or leucistic. Hmm... I'm very curious about it.

over here the most common are wildtype and leucistic, then goldens, then albinos then melanoids. it depends on where you live

I haven't really looked around all that much, but I've seen heaps of gold, and quite a few wildtypes and leucistics, not many albinos or melanoids.

I'll be on the hunt for a melanoid soon, when the weather gets a bit colder here, and I'm home more often.

Is it possible to get a wildtype from breeding a melanoid with a golden? Say, perhaps, if one maybe had a wildtype as a parent/grandparent?

i think its only possible if it has wildtype genes in it, from back down the line. if you dont know the history you could get a throw back but i think thats quite unlikley

The majority here at the moment are Golden and Albino. Wild types seem to be scarce.

It seems to change through the course of the year.

The only type I have ever seen here in London, Uk, is the wild type. Never seen any of the others.

regular white albino's seem to be very uncommon here. A pet shop here in town said that they hope to sometime get in regular white albino's because they rarely if ever see them.

When I lived up in Montana, they had white albino Axolotls during part of the year there. Of course at the time I had no idea what they were. They kept them in with sand, so they were somewhat educated on Axolotls. White albino was the only color I ever saw there.

seems to vary a lot here, for months my local shop had only wild type(brown) and whites. Now he has albino whites and goldens.Yet the store in Brisbane were my g/f got hers seem to get all sorts.

yeh, from what ive seen over here (in several petshops)are golden and white albino axies.

We mostly have albinos and a few wildtypes, I've only ever seen one leucistic and I bought him! The shop said they were rare...

I would have really liked to have a regular albino, but if I ever came across one, I'm quite happy with the 6 I already have. I don't think a 7th would work for me lol. But I would still like to have one

I've seen mainly leucistics here in the middle of England.

Then golden albinos then the dark ones (don't know the difference between melanoid and wildtype)

My guess would be white and gold albino are the most common in pet shops. Lots of people either hate or love wild type. I've noticed men and free thinkers seem to be more attracted to axolotls than Republicans.

Hey Mike...LOL

You are right about the axolotls. Some of my co-workers thought the white ones looked like "hairless" rats!!! I'm not sure if they were republicans

Its funny you mention this, but all my friends that are less likely to run away at the site of my collection or even help me feed them are from Chapel Hill

Goldens are rare where I live. The most common are black ones and albinos...

leucistic i think you mean cake. I HAVE A GOLDEN *im so proud!!* i have never seen a melanoid or even heard of one, heard of white albinos though

yeah sorry I don't know the names yet. The one's I see most often are pink looking ones and white ones with black eyes and wildtypes...not melanoid?

You're lucky to have a golden one. I've only ever seen one in a picture... :-|

No I think my one was a melanoid because it had the small eyes and mouth...

they all have the same eyes and mouths. melanoids (i have never seen any here) are pure black with black eyes, wildtypes are brown with brown eyes with gold rings in them-however wildtypes come in heaps of shades, mine looks almost black, some peoples look like rust! leucistic are white (pinkish) with black eyes and alinos are obviously white with red eys

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
