I am just curious as I am debating getting them after we move. We have no bait shops here. I have in fact never seen them here, How do you go about getting one?

I still have a lot of research to do ... but knowing where to get them helps.

John Clare actually managed to breed this species and had some for sale earlier...last year..hopefully they will breed again. Otherwise we recommend you try and catch one. We don't approve the sale of wc animals because too often that means people go into the wild and collect mass quantities, devastating a population, to make a profit. But one person collecting a few for themselves is OK.

But it may not be...Ideally any collection should be carried only after assessing the health of the population.
Also, if you do collect, it would be vastly preferable if you collected a small number of eggs or young larvae. Adults should not be collected.
I would personally encourage you to take advantage of those lovely CB specimens Dawn was talking about, though.

I personally can not collect ... so I wanted to save one from being bait. I can never find them in the wild and I do not have the heart to take animals from the wild.

I saw the CB's ... But the point was I would like to save a bait animal or one being sold as a " water dog" ... I know it slightly contributes to the problem but it makes a world of difference to the ones you save.
