I am going to build an aqua-terrarium and would LOVE to have a Fire belly newt larvae swimming (with no other newts in it of course). The big problem is that I can't find anywhere online or near my home to buy one. Can anyone help me? And also I want to put in some FBT and I have 2 questions. Where could I find a FBT tadpole if I can't find a FBN tadpole, and can the two species live together as adults. I saw a video somewhere and the person had bot Fire Belly toads and FBN living together. If it matters the tank is 29 gallon and I am thinking of putting around 4 FBT and 1-2 FBN, it really depends on availability and price.

Firstly, you need to be aware that larval newts and toads will eventually turn into terrestrial forms, especially C.orientalis (Chinese fire-belly newt) which goes through a terrestrial eft stage.

Secondly, mixing Fire-bellied toads with Fire-bellied newts is not recommended, just because others have done it does not mean that it is the correct thing to do; if you need proof, read this page- http://www.caudata.org/cc/articles/Mixing_disasters.shtml

I don't think it is the season for these species right now- later on this year, check the 'for sale' section of the forum, I'm sure you will see these available.

Good Luck!
