Hi, does anyone know of a place in the St. Louis Metro Area where I can purchase an axolotl? I've been looking forward to getting one for months, and I've got a tank set up for him and everything. I was planning on buying from buy-axolotls.com, because I'd heard good reviews, but then I sent in for my price quote and found out that it would cost $60 just for shipping  and I just can't justify paying that much for shipping on a $35 purchase. If any one can help me, it'd be greatly appreciated!

I recommend you purchase axolotls from good breeders who participate in this forum. You will find their shipping charges to be less than the charges from the seller you talked about. I've heard great reviews about the sellers on caudata.org.

Of course if you can find quality animals close to home so much the better.

agreed. and even if you cant find shipping cheaper from a private breeder on the forums, the price of the axolotl itself isnt as much most of the time. You can find people selling juveniles for 10-25$ depending on the color morph.

Have you checked the "for sale or give away" subforum on caudata? that would be the best place to look :)

Yes, thank you! I'm new to this forum and I didn't even realize that there was a place where people sold them! I'm looking into a purchase from a breeder right now! :D

I bought my little guy in here about $45 with shipping and I am getting my second one. =] you should check it out form the FS:USA section. good luck=]

Michael Shroom from this web-site sells them I bought a GFP wild from him at the reptile show and he's great he's a really good eater..he loves worms the pellets he's not picky and has beautiful gills haven't put him under a black light yet to see him glow but he's my first and I plan on getting another one from him..but if your area has a reptile show that's where I purchased him I also bought two small leucistic that are doing well but much smaller and they are doing well..:)

Are there any breeders on the site who are currently able to ship axies to Hawaii?

I ship to Hawaii year round. You need a Hawaii department of ag permit to receive them.
