every year I go to a camp(the one I posted pics from) that has a lake and then a lot of woods around the lake with little swamps and holes that are vernal pools

anyway a friend(he works there) and I were wondering because we have never found an adult Central newt(N.V.L)

we have found multiple efts and were wondering do the adults maybe go into the lake and then come out at spring, breed in the vernal pools, and then go into the lake?? do they breed in the lake? it has fish in it so i dont think they do, but that brings up another question, do the larvae have toxins in their skin like the adults?

It has also been pretty dry up there the past couple of years, so the ponds dry up pretty fast

I think it might depend on the size of the lake. There was a "lake" that I used to go to in southwestern pennsylvania that was at least 20 acres, although I am not too sure about it's size, and we used to find adult notos in the heavy aquatic weeds along the shore. We even would catch them when we went fishing by dangling a worm into the water and pulling them out when they would bite the worm. there were definietly big fish in the lake as well as waves. it is surprising to think that the newts were so common, but they were. it might be the same thing with your camp.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
