Hello forum! My female axolotl has started laying her first clutch. She's been pretty big for a long time, so I knew it would happen eventually, but it was still a surprise.

I currently don't have the time to raise babies (though I will in the future, which is why I kept a male and a female). So I thought it might be a good idea to give the eggs away for free, or sell them for a few cents, to people who want them. I got the parents shipped to me in the mail, as eggs. Since it's spring time, I figure it'll be safe to ship the eggs when they're ready.

What is a good time to ship the eggs? Where do you suggest posting about their availability?

And lastly, how do you tell if the mother is pregnant with eggs, if you don't find or see the sperm pouch during breeding? I never saw a sperm pouch, but my female has been really fat for months. I remember, from a previous pair of axolotls I owned, how females look when they're making eggs, so I recognized the signs and I've been looking for a sperm pouch for months. So I have no idea when this happened.

Ship eggs as soon as possible. It's frustrating to receive eggs that hatch in the mail!

The For Sale section of this forum is quite well-visited.

Females will lay eggs around 24 hours after picking up a spermatophore.

Renita,

I have been looking for eggs and would love to take them off of your hands. How much are you asking? What color type are their parents??

Sorry, I know you were trying to find info about when it is good to sell the eggs, I'm pretty sure it is okay to ship within 24-28 hours of them being layed.
Hope this helps!1

Thank you for your info! That means I need to ship them soon. I will go start a thread in the selling/breeding section.

The mother is a glowing type leucistic, and the father is a regular leucistic. I'm not sure what their parent's colors were, though. I'm unsure how much to charge, since I heard a rumor that first clutches might have a higher mortality rate. But I'll figure that out in the selling section.

The first response was meant for you, but in case it doesn't tell you, I'm quoting you too :) Not sure exactly how this forum works.

"Thank you for your info! I was told by another owner that since it is her first clutch, that most of them might die. Do you know if that is valid information?"

It appears I don't have access to the for sale section of Caudata yet. So if you are interested in the eggs, please PM me.
