When can you classify an axolotl as skinny? [PIC]

My axolotl's ribs are showing and she always eats? Is she too skinny [picture should be shown]

um, i dunno, one of mine hasnt eaten for about 20 days and has a wide girth, and has those still. but her underside is really sucked in, i think your suposed to see those ridges, is it ribs, someoen told me they were the eggs are stored, like huge overies hehehe, is it female. im intrested too

the ridges are not ribs. and theyre also not ovaries. the name has escaped me what they are actually called though.

if its young i wouldnt say it was all that skinny- especially males. i wouldnt worry, in time it will fatten up if its going to be a female (and probably a little if its a male)

She is a female but im not to sure how old she is... She eats reguarly though

A little worried she might be coming down with something.. lately she has been a little sluggish and not her usual energetic self

kim maybe the temperature has something to do with your axie being sluggish. i know its been hot basically all over australia. when it gets hot i hardly ever see my axie move from her cave and she loses condition but i bought a chiller so hopefully this will be better. i dont think your axie is particularly skinny but this might also be the way she is like some people are short, fat, thin or tall.

Kim, you say that shes eating fine... Does she tend to take the feed and spit it back out sometimes? Even vommit it back up sometime after taking the food?

Yeh and Denise has a point! What temp is your tank at?

Nah shes a very good eater, always eating and always keeps it down

So far the temperature is at 24-25 degrees... isnt it meant to be under 20?

I just read a FAQ page and it sed to keep them between 14 degrees and 22! The temperature gauge ive placed in the water takes a little while to give an accurate reading but so far its hovering around 24-25

Im placing more ice in the water to see if it helps... Sushi's tail and face are very pink

Temperature is slowly going down though

The temp is still a bit high but its at 22.4 so ill leave a frozen ice bottle in there

I have a question... how can i maintain a temperature that is heathy for the axies? Once the ice melts the hot temps come back and i cant leave a huge bottle in the tank in case it sinks.... any ideas?

Costal Ridges.

Putting her in the fridge is a good way. Why is it a problem if a bottle sinks in the tank? If the bottle is filled with ice, it won't sink (as ice is less dense than water). It also won't sink when it melts because the bottle will then have air in it.

if you have enough room in your freezer, you can keep a rotation of 4 bottles or more going. Some members use a fan to bring the air off the surface and some direct it towards the surface.
My best luck was with plastic freezer packs, they froze colder then ice and lasted a very long time.

Jeff, do you mean those big plastic things you put in a cooler? also, do you know of any vets that treat axies around here ? (for future reference?)

Well good news

From placing the ice in lastnight its stayed at a temp of 21-22 degrees and Sushi's just about at her normal white self
