I have had a new axolotl for about four months, but she's probably closer to seven to ten months.
I've been hoping to house her with my older axolotl who's about two and a half years old, maybe a bit older. He's about ten inches, and my juvenile is a little over seven. I have them in a 40 gallon US breeder separated, but they seem very interested in one another. I wish they were closer in age, but I haven't had much luck finding axolotls in Colorado.

Well, as long as the bigger one can't swallow the little one, that's what matters. Remember that they can swallow impressively large things!

I don't think he can swallow her, what I'm worried about is him possible being hostile to a newcomer and taking a leg off. I don't know, I've just never had two axolotls together before.

I'd wait until they're similar sizes. Also when you do it's probably best to have a tank divider for a while.

I have them in the same tank with a pretty sturdy divider. I guess I'm wondering when to remove it.

In my tank i currently have 6 axolotl, my biggest in a leucitic which is 12 inches ( had two one died) and my smallest in a golden who is 7 inches and the rest are between that size. They all get along fine i have not yet had any problems with nipping or missing body parts. If you are worried your axolotl has got a little "territorial" i would recommend to switch up the landscape and hiding a little if possible it will eliminate this possibility. Plus i have noticed my axies like when i switch it up every now and then.
