What's your axy's diet?

What do you guys actually feed your axys?
I mean, everyone feeds them earthworms, but what do you mix it up with?
I've heard it's actually bad for your axy to feed them just one kind of food.

I feed my babies earthworms 4 times a week, when it's hotter I give them 1/4 of a block of frozen bloodworms (I like to think of them as lollipops for them) and when I can afford them I get them shrimp every so often.

I kind of want to introduce more variety, but I know that can make them fussy.

Anyway, what's your axy's diet?

I can tell you that my axolotl absolutely loves frozen bloodworm but I'm trying to get him to eat pellets more often because they are really nutritious and they're easier for other people to feed him when I'm away on location. I feel like none of my family would be willing to defrost a bloodworm and put them in individually, wriggling them around to get him interested.

I feed them 90% pellets since they actually seem to love them. My 2 axies just gobble them right up without hesitation within minutes of putting them into the tank!

I have a worm farm with red wrigglers, I feed those occasionally too. When the lotls were only on worms, they actually almost destroyed my farm with the amount of worms they ate, so I am leaving it alone to repopulate for the meantime.

Much prefer the pellets though. I hate cutting, soaking, and individually feeding the worms. Makes me feel like Dexter

My children get earthworms as the staple, salmon pellets as occasional treats and I'll steal bloodworms from my partner when they buy them for their fish.

Bloodworms are too messy for me to want to regularly deal with, but I'll be darned if my axies don't go nuts over them when they do get em!

Mine gets live blackworms every other day. I tried frozen bloodworms, but she refused to eat them for the longest time, and once she started she got diarrhea :/ So we haven't experimented with any other food since.

I've heard alot of good things about black worms,my only problem is my axolotl doesn't seem to find them? I have a bowl in my tank that i syringe the black worms into but unfortunately she hasn't yet found them

My axolotl is currently in a bare-bottomed tank, so I just drop a few pinches along the bottom and they kind of ball themselves together, making themselves easier to eat I'll usually drop the first pinch right in front of her and she snatches it out of the air. Let's her know to go hunting for more

I'm hoping to train her to eat out of a dish as her new tank has sand on the bottom. If you figure out a good way to help your axie figure it out, let me know!

There is no reason an axie can't be happy and healthy fed exclusively on earthworms.

But for variation I use bloodworm, river shrimp, pellets, raw fish/shellfish, waxworms and mealworms.

I put my axxies pellets in his food dish and he eats them all on his own. They smell out the food when they're hungry lol.

I started doing that when he was a tiny baby and it's always worked out just fine!

What I did was wait until my axie got used to the dish and then whenever he was near enough to see it, place the food on the dish and move it around until he notices it was there. Doing that for about a week, he learned that there will usually be food on the dish, and that's the place it magically appears. ?

I feed mine a mix of bloodworms and brine shrimp pellets, but he's still too young to eat earthworms.

Earthworns staple, treats are bloodworms (live or frozen), frozen brine shrimp and live white worms.

Right now my juvie (5 inch) axies get red wigglers, frozen bloodworms and pellets on alternate days. I want to switch to the worms most of the time, but I just started offering them and one of my axies isn't thrilled with them.

I tried using dishes, since they have sand substrate. I find that the food ends up outside the dish, and the sand ends up in the dish.

Thanks for info everyone! Only took a few days but now my axolotl swims straight to the bowl when she knows there are worms in there for her, just like a previous member said after putting the worms in the bowl move it around or what I did was held a skewer in the tank and made small vibrations near the bowl, took some time but now she knows when their is food in the bowl and she will still take food from a skewer! (haven't hand fed her yet)

When feeding prawns/shrimp, do you guys use live or frozen? if frozen do you use the whole prawn/shrimp? At the moment I'm only feeding her earth worms, black worms and the occasional meal worm, I understand you can feed beef strips and heart, but im not keen on this as axolotls don't eat cows, whats your thoughts on this?
