One of my local pet stores has these newts lately. They call the Hong Kong Newts for $7.99 ea. I'm thinking they're some kind of paddle tail newt, pachy, but not positive. They have them totally in water, so I hope they're OK like that.

Thanks!

not pachy but a paramesotriton, its hard from these shots and this bad monitor at work to tell which one it is -its not a caudopunctatus, and it really doesnt look like a hongkongensis from this photo - so that leaves 5 more species it could be. these guys are semi aggressive and about 80-90% aquatic (depending on which species-my hong kongs will come out of the water onto a bank, but my chinensis never do, but they are also real fat! so it might be hard for them to haul themselves out on land) check out the CC species section to see if you can get them ID' by matching with photos posted there.

Hi Danny, Yes, I think you're right, yours looks identical to these. Thanks!

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
