Hey, in the past i have only ever kept axolotls and soon i will be getting some extra storage space and i am hoping to convert an old aquarium into a terrestrial setup for a salamander!

Now what i was wandering was what species wold be good for my first salamander?

species that im currently thinking of:
Tiger salamanders
ambystoma maculatum
fire salamanders

i've done allot of research on each of these and i will be okay to look after any of them!

so two things

1. which of these would you recommend for a beginner
2. What other species would you recommend

All replies appreciated! :D

The three choices you picked are all pretty good. As much as I am personally fond of A.maculatum, they are pretty skiddish and so they don't make the best "pets". Tigers and Salamandra species are both pretty outgoing and would make great beginner species. Seeing as you are located in Europe, I would go with Salamandra, as I'd think that they would be easier to obtain than Tigers over there.

As for other recommended species....someone else can probably be of more assistance there.

Thanks allot
It seems easier to obtain the tigers strangely enough.
The only problem with the maculatums is getting them really, i wouldn't know where to look
(p.s how many maculatums would you recommend for a 15 gal?)
Thanks again
