What's compatible with red-Backed Salamander?

I have two re-backed salamanders (Plethodon cinerus) in a 15-gallon woodland habitat terrarium that I keep at only 70-75 degrees. I know these salamanders (native of Virginia) are well adapted to this temperature and would like some ideas of other types of salalmanders or frogs that would be compatible and require simlar conditions. Thanks in advance!

Hi Sue, P. cinereus are highly territorial and are not a community animal by their very nature. While I often find southern redbacks near P. albagula here, I never find them under the same object together. It would not surprise me actually if the P. albagula here actually injure or prey upon the redbacks.

Also, I disagree with your statements about temperatures. While they may tolerate those temps, they are not ideal. If you doubt this, go record some temperatures where the salamanders are actually living, such as under rocks, logs, and 2-4 inches down in shaded leaf litter or underground. The temps are much cooler. Here in Missouri for example, the outside air temp may be 70-75F, but the shaded forest leaf litter still ranges from 58-63F.
