Hi I'm getting my own Axolotl soon and I'm just making sure I know everything that's needed.

I'm wondering what types of plant people would recommend to keep the nitrate and oxygen levels comfortable?

I was considering getting a couple of moss balls anyway because they look cool.

Moss balls are fine as long as they are larger than the axolotls mouth - I mean substantially larger, you don't want to risk them attempting to eat it o_O

Plants that like cold tanks are preferable & Java Fern / Java Moss are very hardy. Anubias on driftwood also can double as hides (raise them up on a rock or two & they are dual purpose) :)

I prefer sticking to plants with firmer leaves - the feathery leafed plants haven't done well in the cool tank they seem to rot & release fine mushy leaves - & yet they thrive in my heated tropical tank.

There are websites that can help with a planted tank, just search a site that gives you the optimum temps for each plant then work from there.

Here's a pic of my axie tank with lots of plants...
