Hello, I am a new member of the forum. This week I was given a salamander my friend brought back to arkansas from Colorado, it's about 6" long and seems to be healthy and active. I have set it up an aquarium and he has transitioned well to the aquarium lifestyle eating the nightcrawlers I've been feeding him, my question as I stated in the title is, what kind of salamander is Jabba? My best guess is he is a larval barred tiger salamander, with his size he might be neotenic but I don't know enough to be able to tell. I will be sure to post plenty of pictures as well to help.

Yes, he's a Barred tiger salamander larva. He may be neotenic, only time will tell, as he also resembles a late stage larva as well. Here's a care-sheet if you haven't found it already: Caudata Culture Species Entry - Tiger salamander and your new little guy is a looker, he/she looks amazing, very long gills

Keep the water cool and provide lots of hiding spaces... I'd also minimize the lights too. Otherwise its gonna morph really fast.
