What type of newt is this

hi i found this dead newt in a pond at my lopcal park does any one know or think they know what it is i think its a smooth/comun newt please tell me what you think it is sam:happy::wacko: sorry if the picks are a bit hard to read:eek:

Not easy to tell, but judging by the mottled belly, i say Lissotriton vulgaris....poor chap....:(
 
Aww....do you know how he died?
I apologize for my curiosity. :p
 
i don't know how he died i found him at the edge of the pond he didn't have any oveus cuts im gussing its the cold winter or lack of food:(:eek:
 
yes, it's a male smooth newt. He might have come out too early and then got hit by a frost - has it been below freezing lately?
 
as far as i am aware it has not been below freezing:eek:
