What type of filer for a 3ft?

I'm thinking of upgrading my filtration. I have a 3ft tank, filled to 100 litres. Obviously canister filters are the best option, but so pricey.
How do internal filters go, compared to external?
And is a 300lt per hour turnover enough for axies, how high can I go before the water current is too much?
 
I think it would be well worth your money to invest in a canister filter on a tank that size.

An external filter may actually save you money and maintenance time in the long run as the media does not have to be changed as often. In my experience it is easier to keep good water quality using canister filters.

The canister filter (fluval 204) I am currently using on my axolotl tank (40 gallons full) moves 180 gallons (680 liters) per hour. It is baffled with a large Rx bottle drilled full of holes over the output nozel.

I have ordered a Aquarium Pharmaceuticals RENA Filstar XP 1 Canister Filter because it comes with a spray bar and moves about the same amount of water as the Fluval 204. Someone here recommended this filter so I thought I would give it a try and see how it compares with Fluval 204. They are within $5 in price.
 
I got by for years with two corner sponge filters in 3 ft tank, no worries. Cheap as.
 
Thanks guys. I have corner filters in all my tanks at the moment, and would recommend them to everyone. At the moment the 2 corner filters are just keeping up with the 3ft tank. Every now and again I'll have a little "worm" outbreak, so I thought I'd better upgrade.
I have been reading up on the Rena XP 1, but I don't think they are available in Aus. Also looked at Fluvals, and another brand called Aqua One. But they're so expensive (on a student budget), I think I will have to save up for one.
In the mean time I have been considering buying a internal filter, to use in conjunction with the 2 corner filters. Although I have doubts to the effectivness of internal filters, with that tiny little space you get to put your media. Hopefully it will be enough to supplement the 2 corner filters.
So I will do some more research into internal filters, and start saving for a canister filter.
 
i use a fluval 3 in my tank it works perfect i have a 2 foot tank but i recommend fluvals they are great
 
fluval is just the brand of the filter I guess

I've kept fish for years and I hated my Fluval canister filter, I always seemed to be cleaning it out. It got so anoying that I packed it in and went to my local aquatic specialist and they gave me the EHIEM professional canister filter!

IT ROCKS!!! It's very tough and only needs cleaning every one to two months. I'd recomend that brand to anyone.
 
should use ebay, there is a fluval 204 on there for 140 bucks when they normally retail for 250, might buy it myself although my internal filter is working just fine
